Dear Duke School Families,
What a great first week I have had at Duke School. The opportunity this spring to meet regularly with school leadership and the Board of Trustees has certainly made for a smooth “baton pass” this week, and for that I am truly thankful.
I am fortified by the ways in which all that defines Duke School—from its embrace of deep inquiry and bold thinking to its shared commitment to serve as a model for equity and justice—informs every discussion, planning session, and problem to solve during this turbulent time. The unwavering commitment to doing what is very best for your children guides our path to re-opening school in August.
Will Duke School be open on August 19, 2020?
The answer to this question is yes, as long as the governor’s executive orders permit us to do so. At the same time, our current public health crisis demands meaningful changes in our policies and procedures that will likely make the upcoming school year feel quite different.
2020-21 Return to School Plan Forthcoming
Working tirelessly for months, the Leadership Team is putting finishing touches on its 2020-21 Return to School Plan. The plan has been developed in concert with the School’s COVID-19 Task Force; in context of recent guidance of the American Academy of Pediatrics; with support from the school’s Health Advisory Group; and in anticipation of stay-at-home/safer-at-home state executive orders.
As the Team and Taskforce finalize multi-scenario modeling and numerous details, we are keeping paramount the health and safety of our students and employees. We will share the 2020-21 Return to School Plan with you on Friday, July 10.
I begin my work with much gratitude for your patience, support, and understanding as we work ardently to serve our students, employees, and families. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your hopes and dreams for Duke School as we start this year together.
