Community Public Health Notice

Dear Duke School Families, Faculty and Staff,

This morning, Duke School was informed that two non-instructional staff employees tested positive for COVID-19. We have notified the Durham County Public Health Department (DCPHD). DCPHD stated that neither situation constitutes an exposure based on the information available, including the following:

  • Neither individual came into contact with any other person(s) within six feet for any cumulative period greater than 15 minutes.

  • Both individuals remained masked throughout their time on campus and observed protocols as outlined in the school’s policy guide.

Each individual reported onset of symptoms on Sunday, November 1.

One individual was last on campus on Friday, October 30, and was in Building B. Again, the individual was masked, and the individual did not come into contact within six feet of any other person for greater than 15 minutes during their time on campus.

The second individual was last on campus on Friday, October 30, in Building K. Again, the individual was masked, and the individual did not come into contact within six feet of any other person for more than 15 minutes during their time on campus.

This letter is being shared to raise awareness only. It is imperative that we all continue to work together to ensure our community members remain safe and healthy. Please know that Duke School will continue to monitor the situation and will provide additional information as needed.

Out of an abundance of caution, our custodial team will perform on-site deep cleaning and sanitizing of buildings B and K today, following the guidelines and recommendations from the NC DHHS and CDC.

In the interests of the health and safety of our community, all Duke School students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to continue to adhere to local orders, as applicable, follow CDC guidelines and recommendations, and practice social distancing. We also request that you review the Duke School Return to School Policies 2020-21 if you have questions related to our procedures during this time.

We will continue to do all we can to provide you with information as we keep paramount the health and well-being of every member of our community. Thank you for your on-going cooperation as we work through these challenges.

Sincerely,

Lisa Nagel

Head of School
