Duke School Carline Procedure

Dear Parents — As we get underway, we would like to share with you an updated plan for afternoon carline. We originally had an awesome way to work through carline, but decided to rework the whole plan once we saw how the carline moved this week. In order to move the children off campus quickly and give parents a bit of flexibility, we would like to set up three “waves” of pick-up. Each wave will have a 10-15 minute window during which parents can join carline in order to pick up their child(ren). As you sign up for your “wave”, please keep in mind that arriving within the given window matters as we will be moving your children from the classrooms to the carline area in sync with your scheduled arrival. If you are running a few minutes late due to traffic, we will keep your child at carline until you arrive. If you arrive too early, we may ask you to move to the parking lot until your child arrives at carline from their classroom. Please let us know if you if you have any questions, Nicole & Jenny PS - Please read through the morning drop-off reminders at the bottom - including a preschool update Preschool Pick-up reminder: · When you arrive/park, you can walk to the classroom door and teachers will pass your child to you. Please keep 6ft distancing policies in mind as you wait with other parents and as you travel back to your car. K-8 carline reminders: · Name Sign - please have your carline namesign on your “PASSENGER SIDE” dash each day as you move through carline. The sign helps us know which child(ren) need(s) to be called forward to load. · Car seats and seatbelts - if your child needs help with their seatbelt or car seat, please allow them to be loaded and then move to a parking spot to assist them. To keep traffic moving, please do not get out of your car while in carline. Parents are also able to park and walk to the curb to retrieve their child if it is easier when dealing with car seats. · Curb Side - children should exit the cars on the curb side only. There is moving traffic in the second lane, ergo it is not safe for children to exit on the driver side. · Business Office Drop-Offs - students should never be dropped off or picked up in the Business Office/Development Office lot. Many delivery trucks move through that space and it is not safe for students.  · Atypical Adult Pick-up - if someone is going to pick up your child that is not on your emergency form, please let teachers know as soon as possible. · Cell Phones - for the safety of all, please refrain from using your cell phone during carline. · Reminder Shares - please share this list of reminders with anyone who might be picking up your child. As you arrive on campus, you can drive in the left lane around the Lower School carline to get to the Preschool Parking Lot. · Late Drop-off - If you arrive after the Temp Check Team has left the carline area, please take your child to the division office to have their temp taken before you walk them to class.
