Spanish Teacher Transitions

Dear Families,

It is with mixed emotions that we let you know that Carla Horta will be moving to Utah with her family this summer. Carla fostered the growth and development of our lower school Spanish program and has steadfastly and joyously taught Spanish at the lower school since 2008. Carla’s warmth and joy for teaching has daily made her lessons fun and rich experiences for all of our students.

While change is always unsettling, we wish Carla and her family all the best and want to assure you that we have a solid plan in place to carry on her legacy of excellence in Spanish language education.

Carolina Vargas, the current middle school Spanish teacher, who has extensive experience working with young children, will move into Carla’s role next year. She is excited to bring her passion for teaching and language to the students at the lower school.

Maribel Aristy, who taught Spanish at the middle school before moving to Spain last year with her husband, has returned to the Durham area and will resume her middle school teaching position next year.

All three of the wonderful Spanish educators will work together for the rest of this year to ensure a smooth transition and continuation of a wonderful program.

Please join us in wishing Carla well and welcoming Carolina to the lower school and Maribel to the middle school.

As always, thanks for your support,

Nicole and Jenny
